Just ask!

Nobody ever got anywhere without asking and if my experience in the past few weeks is anything to go by, if you don’t ask, you don’t get! It’s how I’ve managed to get some of the “A list” bloggers to read, review and post about my new book.

Too many times, you build things up to be a “big thing”. Or you create a pedestal upon which to put someone which prevents you from connecting with them.

There’s only one caveat to this advice…the person you’re asking is probably going to be thinking “What’s in it for me?”. If there’s nothing in it for them, then don’t ask, at least not until you’ve thought of something that’s “in it” for them.

What Will You Have Done 5 Years From Now?

I wrote several months ago about one of the most effective methods for completing a project – how finishing one before starting another can make much more sense than having several on the go that you’re trying to complete at the same time.

I wrote several months ago about one of the most effective methods for completing a project – how finishing one before starting another can make much more sense than having several on the go that you’re trying to complete at the same time.

If there’s one big thing you want to achieve in your life – perhaps it’s writing your own book, perhaps it’s growing your business, it could be losing weight, or reading the entire works of Shakespeare – how close to completion would you be this time in 1, 5 or even 10 years time, if you put just 30 minutes of effort towards this goal every single day?

Just think….30 minutes spent writing or reading or building or exercising – can you manage that daily? Over 5 years that’s almost 1,000 hours.

If you’d started this 5 years ago, what would you have achieved by now? Is there something you’ve been putting off, that you could start today, put 30 minutes of effort in every day and in 5 years time have created something phenomenal?

Why I Love My Clients

Dammit, I knew that wouldn’t work…you are still reading aren’t you? Ok, here goes…

On the days I have client calls, I sometimes (not always) dread them. It was the same when I was a personal trainer. I have a minor crisis of confidence every now and then; I build it up in my head that maybe I won’t know something they ask me, or that the value I provide isn’t "worth it" or that one of these days, I’ll be found out as a total and utter fraud. There. Said it. Still alive, still breathing!

Logically, I know this is stupid. I know my stuff. I really know my stuff. And I know how to help others know their stuff too but it’s sometimes the pressure I put on myself to deliver, that results in these mini crises. I’m getting better at that but I think it’s the perfectionist in me that doesn’t exactly help matters.

Today however, I’ve been reminded why I really love my clients. And why, despite recently saying that I don’t think I’ll be doing much more coaching for a while (and really convincing myself of this)…I lied and I probably will. It’s a girl’s prerogative to change her mind, don’t ya know ;-)

One of my CHEK practitioner clients today, gave me a massive kick up the proverbial. Not deliberately but in such a kind and loving way that I practically reversed my decision to stop coaching CHEK practitioners (which I’d made recently but not properly shared), in an instant.

What did he do that was so profound?

He simply told me that whilst he’d read I might be considering stopping the business coaching for chekkies, he felt it would be a real shame; he felt that what I offered was still so valuable and necessary that he’ll help me in any way he can. And he said that even if it wasn’t ever as successful as I hoped it might be or that I might not reach the millions I want to reach (ok, there’s only a few thousand CHEK practitioners but that’s not the point), that’s not a reason to stop doing it whilst I can still help some people.

So, thank you Duncan. You did a sterling job and it’s a privilege to be coaching you.

P.S. Now will you please update your blimmin’ blog!!!!
