Aaagh, I’m In A Funk!

Posted by Lea 7 July, 2008

This morning I was in a major funk. Nothing seemed positive, everything was crap and I had to gee myself up to talk to two clients on the phone for hours.

To top it all off, it’s still raining here in Cape Town (5th day straight) which is as depressing as hell and makes me want to jet out of here back to somewhere hot for a while (maybe I’m just suffering from SAD).

Plus, I think I got some sort of stomach parasite from some sushi I ate last week (I don’t really even like the raw fish ones, I just ate them cos they were my share!!) so my health has been off this week and even though I don’t feel under the weather, my body is telling me I am (think cold sores, lethargy, gnawing pains in my stomach and lack of appetite – so unlike me!).

So things are not good at the moment. But that’s just rubbish, because in reality things are great. Business is going well, we’ve just launched 2 new sites, my projects for the other company are ok and we’re staying in a great apartment here in Cape Town.

But I’m still in a funk, so if I’m away from here for a few days, you’ll know why and I promise…I’ll be out of it soon!

Hope you’re feeling better soon – usually a “funk” is my way of convincing myself to take some time off to recharge the proverbial batteries.

Sorry to hear you ended up not feeling well over sushi. i had that about a month ago, also due to sushi (I live in Tokyo). Living in a city of what seems like a billion people and being smashed in trains it can be easy to get in a funk. The best thing I can recommend is to be extra nice to people and to help out whoever you can. In turn, they are super nice to you and you feel that things aren’t so bad. It’s the whole giving without expecting to get back thing. It really does work.

@Anne-Marie – Thanks! I think it’s the shock of having to work for someone else again…and you’re right, it’s definitely a sign to give myself a break.

@Nick – wow, I can imagine Tokyo could be a pretty stressful place to live…fascinating though, isn’t it? And you’re right too about the giving bit, although it’s partly that that’s had me run down. Need to take some more ‘me’ time for a bit before giving too much of myself away that there’s none left :)

@Lea- I am glad to hear you are feeling better and that all the problems seem to be disappearing. It’s amazing how sometimes they can all come at the same time.
