The answer is obvious isn’t it? Isn’t it?
So why do so many solopreneurs running their own small businesses address both in their marketing materials? For example: “Whether you’re a small business or corporation blah blah blah”. WHY?
I’ll tell you why…they’re scared to define their target markets too tightly and exclude potential customers (especially those who they hope will be the cash cows – the big corporates).
I know because we did this too for a while! Until we realised that it was not worth even trying.
Having both worked in the corporate world and had corporate clients for our small business, Jonathan and I both know that the process of marketing to and working with a bigger, corporate company is vastly different from working with a solopreneur or small business owner.
My advice having been there & done that? Don’t do it, focus on a tighter target market and you’ll find customers and clients so much easier to attract.

I always advise the small business person to keep away from big corporations for one fact, they never ever pay on time, they have huge accounts payable departments to slow down the process.
That’s very true – and why we moved to a model of pay upfront, even for corporates. Most freelancers would say “oh they’ll never do that” but actually if you approach it right, they will.
