Do blogs really work?

Somebody who just doesn’t know how I feel about blogs, recently asked me "Does a blog really work?"

I guess it depends what ‘work’ means…but what they really meant was do blogs really help you get more clients & customers?

In a word…absolutely!

A number of my clients have decided to call & ask about working with me, either having been a reader of my blog for a while or having met me, read a few posts and decided I can’t be all that bad!!

I haven’t yet managed to work out the stats yet (e.g. the average length that someone reads the blog for before they decide they want to work with me) but I will do when I have enough numbers to warrant doing so.

The thing is though, you can’t just write a blog every now & then and expect people to come to you. A blog is, to be quite honest, labour intensive.

You have to put time & effort into it, nurture it, treat it well, give it some attention (phew, it sounds like a husband) and then it will reward you. It most certainly isn’t an automated marketing system that works away in the background without you having to do much at all.

I am forever extolling the virtues of blogging but if you don’t think you can give it the attention it needs, then don’t bother.
