That’s right, we’re moving back to the UK. Due to a combination of factors, we ultimately decided that having the baby in the UK was the sensible and responsible thing to do so we’re moving back there. This week.
Fortunately, it’s only temporary – at least until we have the munchkin and feel ready to start travelling again.
Having known for years that we don’t want to settle permanently in the UK, I’ve been struggling to adjust to the fact that we’ll be living there for a few months (alongside just getting used to the whole baby thing).
And don’t get me started on the faff we’ve had trying to sort out the phone line so we can get broadband again – UK telecoms companies have not improved despite the millions they spent on projects with my old consulting company (yes BT, I’m looking at you).
So, once we’re “settled” get ready for my full-on return to the blogosphere :)

Makes a lot of sense Lea and once the baby (and you) are ready to start rolling again the new adventures will begin!
As a dad of two, I can heartily recommend the UKs anti-natal system, they wrap you up in a reassuring blanket of scans, checks and health care professionals on call for you all teh way through your pregnancy.
I cannot speak about any other countries system, but that support and constant attention gives you a lot of good feeling about the old NHS.
Thanks for your support Joanna – it means a lot :)
That’s good to hear Neil. Most people seem intent on telling me their bad experiences and questioning our decision to come back to the UK – nice to hear the other side for a change!
My husband and I just moved to the UK from the US a few months back. It took over a month to get our internet up and running. I feel your pain dealing with all the “getting set up” expenses. We are still dealing with some of them!
Ouch! I’m curious…what made you make the move over here? I know of a couple of US families who’ve moved over here in the past few months…
Hey Lea,
We actually had friends near Glasgow and had always thought it would be cool to live in another country– So Scotland it ended up being! My husband is getting a master’s degree at a uni in Glasgow. We figured the UK was a good place since they at least speak the same language here, not too much of a culture shock. Also, it’s close enough to the rest of Europe to be able to travel easily!
@Melissa – Glasgow’s a lovely city, even if it is freezing up there ;)
