HK Shopping, Offshore Banking & Flat Beds

I’m sitting in our HK hotel room piggybacking off the free high speed internet they offer which we’ve made wireless in our room with our nifty little wireless router.

It’s kind of weird staying in a hotel here in HK since I’ve always stayed with my Dad & Gail who, rather inconsiderately now live in Italy which means we no longer have a place to stay.

The efficiency of the place is staggering – there is no excuse not to get stuff done here – a haven for the productivity gurus amongst you. On our first morning here…

  • I walked into a top hair salon and got my haircut within 15 minutes (cost an arm & a leg mind you, but I was desperate).
  • Opened up a HK bank account and got my bank card then and there (I have a permanent HK ID card which makes the whole thing far easier but still…how much faff does it take in the UK or elsewhere?!?).
  • Found and bought almost all the clothing items on my (admittedly relatively short) list – being Asian means the clothes actually fit me here which makes a nice change from having to cut 5 inches off the legs in the UK whenever I get a new pair of trousers.

Yesterday we caught up with my stepsister and her 2 daughters and on Monday we’re having lunch with Cyan & Collis of Freelance Switch fame – who happen to be staying in HK for a few months. Then it’s off to Dubai for a night via the flat beds of Emirates business class (very excited about that – if you only knew how much I hate flying you’d understand why!!) and then on to the UK for a week.

In the meantime, we’re about to start 4 fairly large projects for clients, I’m getting my head around going back to management consulting for a few months and we’re planning what we’ll need for 6 months in South Africa.

Who says a lifestyle of permanent travel is unproductive?!?

Did you enjoy this? Spread the fun!

@Jennifer – Thanks for coming out of the woodwork so say “hi”…always nice to hear from people who actually read what I write!!

@Shopcart – HK is a great shopping place and very cheap too…very hard to stop ourselves falling into the consumerist trap and wanting things left, right and centre. We just about managed this time!
