I’m Done With Faffing! Time To Achieve.
If you are a long time follower of this blog, you may know that I started writing it initially as a marketing tool some time last year.
You may also have followed my progress in business as I’ve been striving to create not only a business which allows me to be location independent but one which is also set up for long term success. Well, it’s official. I am done with faffing around any more.
Ok, that’s not quite fair. You could call what I’ve done “experimenting” or even better “testing” – and that is quite true. However, having tested enough, now I am in the process of getting all aspects of my business sorted out into a very strategic manner.
Who or what are you?
I think this question is one that many people in business for themselves struggle with. The problem is that very often, you are so many things which can’t simply be defined by one title.
Personally, I’m no longer so hung up on who/what I am (coach? consultant? LIP? entrepreneur? author?) but more focused on what I do.
It is an interesting conundrum though – many people like to put labels on things & people. If you don’t give them your preferred label to use, you run the risk of (a) not being memorable (b) being mistaken for or called something you’d rather not be mistaken for or called!
The answer for me is that I do a whole range of things – but all focused around one key element: helping people do what they want to do, whether that is become location independent, improve their business skills or launch themselves into cyberspace with a blog or website.
And so with that settled in my mind, I have been getting on with the business of strategising. I have, in the past few weeks, completed the following:
- Clearly defined who I am trying to help with each of my offerings
- Revised how I plan to help by creating a simpler but more strategic matrix of services & products in each area
- Re-mapped out the customer journey for each of my ideal clients
- Created my marketing plans for next year and recruited some help to implement them
- Cut down on the new projects I’m taking on and started to really focus on the existing ones that have the most promise
This has given me great focus, clarity and determination that next year will be the year of big money! Yes, next year it will be all about the money – and more specifically, building up our coffers so we have 12 months worth of living/business expenses in the bank.
Having spent this year focusing on creating our ideal lifestyle, we want to top it and do it in style in the future – no more economy class flights (oh my god, have you seen the new first class on Singapore Airlines A380s???), no more budget Caribbean weeks and no more avoiding Hawaii because it’s so expensive – even though we suspect it might just be one of our ideal places!!!
The faffing is over. Time to get stuff done.
