There’s been so much stuff written about The Secret over the past few months that I’m not going to labour the point.

There’s one thing about it though that almost everyone misses (or at least those who try it once or twice then dismiss it because it doesn’t work).

Many people have talked about “action” being the missing ingredient for The Secret to work – and that’s absolutely true.

The other thing that people don’t realise is this…

If you ask the universe/God/whatever you believe in for money, is it going to just hand you money on a plate or is it going to give you the opportunity to make it?

If you ask for happiness, is it going to give you happiness or the opportunity to make yourself happy?

If you ask for confidence, is it going to give you confidence or the opportunity to demonstrate your confidence?

If you ask for courage, is it going to give you courage or the opportunity to show your courage?

Most people are so busy asking for something and looking for it to be handed to them on a plate (and then moaning that it’s not), they miss the fact that the opportunity to take what they’ve asked for is staring them in the face.

P.S. If you’re wondering where this idea came from, it’s from a really poor excuse for a movie…no prizes for guessing which one but you can pat yourself on the back, if you do!!

P.P.S Happy Valentine’s Day!

Hmmm, doesn’t quite have the same ring to is as Lawyer of Attraction, does it?!?!

But I’ve given myself a promotion because we’ve had the following recent successes…

Whilst we were in NYC, J and I were talking about my coaching and I was saying how I’d really like to focus more on the technology side of it and help more solopreneurs implement the right technology for their businesses.

After our lack of focus on the business whilst we were in the UK I’d been convinced that once we were back in Grenada, the work would flow again. The second day after we arrived in Grenada, I got 3 requests for technology consultations & coaching.

Last week I was thinking one evening about how I might blog about the fact that I find it quite rude when people (not clients) email me with questions, I reply & I hear nothing else from them (no ‘thank you’, no comment…nada). I didn’t blog about it because it’s against my ethos for this blog and I’m only posting about it now because there’s a positive slant to the story!

Then the next day, I got an email from somebody (not a client – who had once previously emailed me, I replied although I couldn’t help but they then never responded), thanking me for writing the blog & tips I provide and how much help & motivation it provides them & others.

And again, one night J and I were talking about his business stuff and how he’d quite like some more corporate design work whilst the illustration side is still slowly growing. The next day he receives an email from someone who’s moved companies (from one of his existing corp clients) and wants him to do some work for her new company.

I think this week I might start thinking about a gorgeous villa in Grenada, complete with infinity edge pool, wooden decking, a maid, a gardener……

As a fan of ‘The Secret’ (mainly because we have actually tried what it suggests and it has most definitely worked for us), I have continued to try out the effects of using the Law of Attraction.

I’ve been wondering however….does anyone else who uses it ever experience flashes of “naughty” thoughts?

Things that you know you shouldn’t think because now you understand the power of the mind and the power of thought but nevertheless, these naughty thoughts somehow still pop into your mind.

Does that happen to anyone else or just me?

I know I’ve always been one to rebel a little at being told what to do or what not to do (if not outwardly then certainly in my own mind) but now I’m realising the power of the mind, I’d been a little concerned that these naughty thoughts might start to actually materialise.

They’re not always that naughty but some recent examples of mine…

- If I’m walking behind someone going down some stairs, sometimes I’ll just have a quick thought about them tripping and falling down or me tripping, falling on top of them and starting a people avalanche.

- When we’re body surfing in the sea, I sometimes can’t help thinking about a shark swimming in the waves behind us, then imagining what would happen if it bit me and I had to go to hospital and would I make it in time or would I have to be airlifted but it would take ages to get a helicopter to Grenada from Trinidad and then etc. etc. etc.!!!

Hmmm, come to think of it, maybe this has nothing to do with the Law of Attraction at all and I just have an overactive imagination :-)

The Secret has been coming in for a bit of a bashing recently apparently. That’s not surprising – it’s a little ‘out there’, it’s a little different and it’s promoting something that not many people are open-minded enough to consider, yet alone accept.

As I posted earlier, the ‘truth’ often goes through 3 stages (thanks Jim for the origin of the quote!). Bob Proctor often uses the example of the Wright brothers who ‘invented’ flying. Imagine how much ridicule & opposition they must have faced when they decided to try & create something that would fly through the air like a bird. I’m sure people at the time labelled their ideas as “dangerous”, “ridiculous”, “not for me” and “far-fetched”.

Well, here’s a short story of a great example of ‘The Secret’ in action…

Teresa (my friend who’s out here in Grenada visiting us) and I were discussing this all yesterday. Like us, she accepts how ‘The Secret’ can work in a positive way but she’s been having problems making it work for her recently.

She’s just put her apartment on the market to sell. She’s had 2 viewings so far but not much interest in the past couple of weeks. I suggested yesterday that she should spend some time thinking about & visualising the kind of person who will buy the apartment. I gave her a piece of paper & told her to write it all down (being the bossy boots that I am).

So she spent about 2 seconds writing down 1 sentence and then said “Is that enough? Is it right?”. To which I replied, “No, go re-do your homework, child!!”.

Actually, we sat & discussed it a bit – we thought it would be a single guy, in his mid 30s with a fair bit of money, a decent job and who liked socialising. She then wrote this all down and included a bit about why the apartment would be perfect for him and how it would suit his lifestyle. Then we started chatting about something else and forgot about it.

This morning Teresa came in to the bedroom and asked whether I thought it’d be expensive to retrieve her voicemails as she’d just received a message. She thought she’d leave it as it could have been work but J said “Oooh, it might be the estate agents”. So of course, she dialled in and retrieved the message immediately.

Who was it from?

The estate agent!!! Saying that a guy was in their office really, really keen to see the apartment and could he see it today. So she called right back and they’re taking the guy round to see it later.

Now we don’t have any more details about him, so we can’t yet say whether we were right or wrong about the specifics…and of course, he hasn’t yet bought it (but he will).

And of course, those are the kinds of things the skeptics and nay-sayers will be thinking or saying.

And I know that any amount of evidence to the contrary won’t open their minds to the possibility that there might just be something in it. I don’t care. I’m not trying to change their minds nor convince them (actually I do care because there are many, many people I can think of right now who could use some ‘help’).

But if you are one of those skeptics, and you open your minds just one tiny, tiny fraction to the possibility that there may just be something in it (yes, even for you), then who knows what could come into your life that you’ve always secretly dreamed of…
