Great post - I think any business should ask this question about ALL they key components of their business - especially if you're an online business.

You should never have a single point of failure.

I'd say that mostly I used to be there just for the conversation. I know up until the last couple of months, I'd really shy away from promoting any of my stuff on twitter.

Now I promote my stuff, but only because I'm proud of it and want to share it with my friends :-) I'm kinda lame like that.

(People often say I'm a skilled networker. I reply that I'm often feeling lonely and just like helping people :) )

With many people, I am connected with them in other ways. Emails, mobile, skype, tweetups. Now I want to move slightly off of twitter and develop a stronger social media presence.

I cannot do anything but agree with this, the DDOS last week left a gap in my promo activities, I reviewed my FB account, something I never use other than to push my tweets to and it's got about five followers, and no-one I really want to talk to.

I think I need to look at a social media disaster recovery policy - hmmm is that a new LIP business consulting idea?
