What is Tim Ferriss up to?
I’m sure most of you have read Tim Ferriss’ 4 Hour Work Week by now. If not, then do – don’t be put off by the title – it’s got some great ideas and concepts in there, combined with some practical (although not always easily applicable) advice.
The thing I can’t work out at the moment is just what he’s up to. I remember reading somewhere that he’s got some grand plan, of which the 4HWW was only a small part – and following his blog doesn’t give too much away either.
The thing I am finding a little disconcerting at the moment is his ability to manipulate people – he recently wrote a blog post “How to Test-Drive Friends and Irritate People” in which he suggested testing people out using a variety of situations designed to see how they would react – and based on their reactions, you get to decide how “suitable” they are as a friend/mate/partner etc.
He then claims that the entire post was designed to see how people respond to a controversial view point and in the comments, says he uses his blog to “bounce ideas off readers…to get feedback”.
Firsty “feedback” for what??? And secondly, don’t his readers feel slightly used and manipulated as if part of one of Tim’s grand lifestyle experiments?
I’ll hand it to him though…he makes you think, is using his current platform of fame for good deeds and sure knows how to write a blog!
Still can’t work out what he’s up to though…any ideas?

His blog kind of turned me off when I read it. I didn’t like the arrogance that came through in some of the posts. But, it could be me …
I do know what you mean Anne-Marie. There is a certain arrogance in the way he writes sometimes but I guess it’s hard to keep his ego down when he’s apparently achieved so much!
I can take his blog in small doses – which is fortunate as he only writes sporadically on it and even then it’s more of a scanned “let’s see what he’s up to this time” than anything more…still wondering what he’s up to!!
