Work Life Balance in Management Consulting. No Chance.

Long time no blog…and I’m exhausted. After twice working past midnight this week and with a full weekend of work ahead of me, it’s a good job there’s only 3 weeks of this project left otherwise I might just kill someone.

This experience is a far cry from the work/life balance promise of my temporary employers who were adamant that the company would be different. In reality, I think we all knew what would happen; and we were right.

In management consulting as soon as clients, costs, expectations and deadlines are involved, all notions of balance go out of the window and the pressure is on to deliver. The concept of work/life balance just does not apply to management consulting. So please, once and for all, let’s banish all pretense that it does or ever will.
